Expect more of these videos to come as others enjoy discovering their new camera.

Nikon D750 magnesium and carbon composite construction, body internals, material selection

The key to the new Nikon D750 is the Expeed 4 image processor. It allows the D750 to operate and process data quickly and results in images with rich color and low noise. The processor is derived from advances found in the D4s and D810. Nikon D750 Expeed 4 circuit board inside

It is housed within a body constructed from magnesium alloy and carbon reinforced thermoplastic composite. The composite, Sereebo, uses carbon fibers in a thermoplastic resin. It is highly conductive and provides electromagnetic shielding. In addition its high strength-to-weight ratio and durability exceed standard materials.

Nikon D750 magnesium-alloy body composite back

The top and back of the D750 are made from magnesium alloy. This provides extreme durability to the areas of highest wear. The front is made of carbon composite monocoque that integrates the internal camera chassis and the outer body.  The result is a camera that is both lighter and slightly smaller than the D610, yet it has better durability and contains additional features such as a tilting LCD.

Nikon D750 weather sealing and composite front body

The Nikon D750 features weather sealing gaskets throughout its construction. The level of moisture and dust resistance is equal to that of professional Nikon cameras.

There is a lot of technology in the D750. Both the packagaing as well as the internals represent significant advances in design and materials.

You can preorder the Nikon D750 from authorized retailers. Retail price is $2,299 for the body only. It will begin shipping September 23, 2014.

Official Nikon D750 Press Release

Outstanding agility, an effective pixel count of 24.3-million pixels with the excellent image quality, the compact lightweight and slim body with a deep grip widens the field of usage.

Nikon D750 press image

TOKYO – Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the release of the D750 Nikon FX-format digital SLR camera.

The D750 is the first in a new line of the compact, lightweight and slim Nikon FX-format bodies offering the superior agility as well as full-scale specifications needed for high-quality imaging and pursuing those of professional models.

The D750 offers superior image quality with an effective pixel count of 24.3-million pixels, a new Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor, and the EXPEED 4 image-processing engine. Adoption of a monocoque structure utilizing a carbon fiber composite material (new material*), magnesium alloy and a completely new layout for the internal structure have achieved a smaller, lighter, and slimmer camera that still offers a firm and steady grip.
In addition, the D750 offers superior high-sensitivity performance and AF that supports shooting in low-light conditions, enabling hand-held shooting of even scenes offering little in the way of lighting. It is equipped with advanced functions nearly equal to those of professional models, and is the first FX-format model to be equipped with a tilting LCD monitor and built-in Wi-Fi® function that add to user convenience.

The D750, which combines superior agility with excellent added value in a compact, slim and lightweight body, eliminates various limitations users face with shooting, enabling greater freedom of expression, and the ability to express their intent, with their photographic imaging. Forming a new line of Nikon FX-format models, the D750 responds to the desire of active photo hobbyists to be ever more creative and feeds their great desire to prove themselves.

  • *Sereebo®, which is manufactured by Teijin Limited. This new material, which utilizes carbon fibers, is very lightweight without sacrificing strength or durability. As this material is well suited to use on camera exteriors because its surface is incredibly smooth with no carbon fiber bosses, it is the perfect cover material for cameras with a monocoque body structure.

D750 Primary Features

  1. The fusion of outstanding agility and an effective pixel count of 24.3-million pixels with the excellent image quality of the FX formatIn addition to being the compact, lightweight and slim camera in the history of the Nikon FX format, the D750 offers a level of agility never before seen with a deep grip that enables a firm and steady hold that was achieved by making the camera significantly slimmer. The fusion of this agility, an effective pixel count of 24.3-million pixels, and the excellent image quality of the FX format enables greater freedom of expression and the ability to better express intent with photographic imaging, and also opens the door to new shooting possibilities.
  2. Clear, high-sensitivity performance that exceeds that of high-end models made possible by a new Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor and the EXPEED 4 image-processing engineThe combination of an effective pixel count of 24.3-million pixels, the new Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor, and the EXPEED 4 image-processing engine achieves both excellent sharpness and superior image quality. By making the pitch of each individual pixel on the new image sensor larger, a broad dynamic range is preserved, and superior high-sensitivity performance that enables rich and smooth expression of tones with very little noise has been achieved. In addition, adoption of new algorithms with EXPEED 4 achieves faithful color reproduction and minimizes noise at high sensitivities. Specifically, the D750 even surpasses the D810 in image quality at high sensitivities, and the large pixel pitch delivers advantages in definition, depth, tonal gradation and clear color. As a result, finely balanced image quality is delivered. This superior high-sensitivity performance is also demonstrated with movie recording.
  3. Full-scale specifications that pursue those of professional modelsBecause the D750 responds to the desire of active photo hobbyists to be ever more creative, it has been equipped with functions and performance nearly equal to those available with high-end models for professional and advanced amateur photographers.
    • Advanced Scene Recognition SystemDetailed analysis of the shooting scene using scene information calculated by the 91K-pixel (approximately 91,000 pixels) RGB sensor and the image sensor increases the accuracy of automatically controlled systems such as AF, AE, i-TTL flash control, and AWB. Faces are also detected when images are framed using the optical viewfinder.
    • Highlight-weighted meteringExposure is controlled with automatic detection of the brightest portion of the frame. This controls loss of detail in highlights (blown highlights), even when the primary subject is lit by a spotlight on a stage.
    • Highly dense 51-point autofocus systemAdoption of a new AF sensor module, and 51 focus points covering a broad range of the frame, enables certain acquisition of the intended subject. This makes for smooth autofocusing, even in low-light conditions of -3 EV(ISO 100, 20°C).
    • High-speed continuous shootingThe D750 is capable of capturing up to 100 shots*1 in a single burst of continuous shooting at 6.5 fps*2 in both FX format and DX format.
      • *1with shooting of JPEG-format images. Excluding shooting of FX-format images at an image quality setting ofJPEG fine and an image size setting of Large (up to 87 shots possible).
      • *2Value with shooting in AF-C autofocus mode, [S] or [M] mode, shutter speed of 1/250 s or faster, all other settings at their default values.
    • An optical viewfinder with approximately 100% frame coverageThe viewfinder built into the D750 offers better light transmissivity and colors, makes it easier to achieve optimal focus when fast lenses are used, and is brighter. An OLED has been adopted for the viewfinder display, making it clear and easy to read.
    • A variety of movie-recording functionsA sequencing mechanism for which the same four-motor system used by the D810 has been adopted enables “power aperture” with movie recording. The D750 also responds to the needs of professional filmmakers with the ability to output uncompressed movies to external HDMI recorders while simultaneously storing them on a memory card inserted in the camera. It also offers advanced functions, such as Wind Noise Reduction and Frequency Response settings, that ensure movie recording with high-quality sound.
    • The same high level of dust and water resistance as the D810
  4. A compact, lightweight, slim, and very strong monologue body that expands shooting possibilities with superior agilityThe D750 is the first Nikon FX-format camera for which a monocoque structure, which serves as the exterior frame that protects the internal structure with great strength, has been adopted. A carbon fiber composite material (new material), has been adopted for the front body, where important mechanisms such as the imaging unit are incorporated, and the front cover, and a magnesium alloy has been adopted for the rear and top covers.
Use of these materials not only helps to make the camera lighter, but also ensure superior strength and rigidity. In addition, positioning of the integrated circuit board and imaging unit in nearly the same place and optimization of drive mechanism positioning have helped to make the camera significantly slimmer. This, in turn, has enabled a deeper grip for a more firm and steady hold. The great maneuverability afforded by a size suited to a variety of shooting conditions greatly expands shooting possibilities for users.
  5. The first Nikon FX-format camera to be equipped with a tilting LCD monitor that supports shooting from any angleThe D750 is the first Nikon FX-format camera for which a tilting LCD monitor has been adopted. The monitor can be tilted up as much as approximately 90° and down to approximately 75° for flexible adjustment over a broad range. As the LCD monitor does not extend away from the camera to a great extent, the compact size and great maneuverability of the D750 is maintained, even with more intuitive shooting from a variety of angles. Adoption of Nikon’s original 3-axis hinge structure and a design that gradually pushes the monitor away from the camera when it is opened to face upwards prevent obstruction of the monitor by the camera’s eyepiece, even when it is opened the full 90°. In addition, when tilted downward by 75°, the monitor swings back so that the monitor won’t touch the tripod base. You can comfortably tilt the monitor even when the camera is on the tripod. The superior operation of this tilting monitor makes live view photography and movie recording fun and easy by allowing users to change the angle of the camera with regard to the scene or subject for great freedom in choosing composition.
  6. The first Nikon FX-format camera to be equipped with a built-in Wi-Fi® function for collaboration with smart devices that enables image transfer and remote shootingThe D750 is the first Nikon FX-format camera to offer a built-in Wi-Fi® function that enables wireless communication in both directions with smart devices such as smartphones and tablets. Still images exhibiting the superior quality possible only with a digital SLR can be uploaded to a smart device via the Internet that allows users to share their images with many people using social networking services and the like. In addition, the live view screen can be displayed on a smart device, enabling use of the smart device to capture not only self portraits and group photos, but also shooting suited to a variety of applications, including remote photography when the camera is mounted on a tripod.
    • *To use the Wi-Fi® function, the Wireless Mobile Adapter Utility app (compatible with both iOS and Android™) must first be installed on the smart device. The Wireless Mobile Utility app can be downloaded (free of charge) from the smart device’s app store.
    • *The D750 complies with the laws and regulations of the United States, including its Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Special permission from the United States government is required to export or take the camera to countries under embargo by the United States (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria). As countries under embargo by the United States may change, please inquire with the United States Department of Commerce for additional or updated information.

Is the Nikon D750 just an updated D610?

The D750 is almost identical to the D610 in size and weight. It is 10 grams lighter and 0.1 inches smaller in two dimensions. Handling the camera is very similar with button layout only slightly changed (to match the left side buttons as on current D7100) .

There are some notable improvements over the D610, many focused on video. First we have the ability to control aperture during live view, something the D610 was not capable of. Even more, we get power aperture control (smooth transition between apertures) during live view video recording with the D750. And it also has a tilting vari-angle 3.2-inch LCD screen. This is something not offered on any other Nikon FX camera.

The D750 also get the new 51-point autofocus system (MultiCAM 3500FX) with group area AF as found on the D810 and D4s. We get Nikon’s latest 91,000 pixel RGB sensor with highlight weighted mode.

Back to video, the D750 has a menu that puts all video controls and settings in one place. There is a built-in stereo mic,  a flat picture control, highlight display zebra stripes, and the ability to use auto ISO during manual mode. We get the normal frame rates in 1080 HD that we expect: 24/25/30/50/60p.

On top of this, there is also built-in WiFi, another first for Nikon FX cameras. What is clear is this camera is very close to professional level specs, but is still in the consumer configuration with a mode dial, compact size and light weight. The perfect camera for many. Only the die-hard professionals may be left wanting more.

You can pre-order the new Nikon D750 to be the first to get the new camera. There is a list of retailers and offers and further information.

More Nikon D750 Pictures of Front, Side, and Rear of Camera

Nikon D750 rear view of camera showing controlsMore views of the new Nikon D750 have been posted. We can see the tilting LCD in action and a close look at the buttons.

The camera has a very familiar layout to those familiar with the D610.  Compared with that camera, the Info button the D750 has moved above the direction pad. The left side buttons are more like the Nikon Df and D7100.

From top to bottom of the left of the D750 LCD we have menu, help/lock, zoom in, zoom out, and secondary info button. Holding these buttons toggle white balance, image size/quality and ISO. This is a similar arrangement to the consumer camera and not like the professional cameras D810 and D4s.

Nikon D750 side view with tilting LCD extended from cameraThe D750 side view shows the doors that cover the remote port (again, the consumer version of remote and no the professional 10-pin and flash syns ports), stereo headphone and mic inputs, and USB and HDMI output connectors. We see that the D750 has built-in WiFi as indicated by a WiFi wireless logo on the side.

The tilting LCD is double hinged and can tint both up and down. It does not appear to be able to be reversed (as the D5300) or fold away from the body to face forward. When not tilted it is recessed into the body so it does not protrude.

The side also reveals the D750 manual/auto focus lever proving that the camera has a built-in focus motor. Dedicated bracket button and flash button are on the side of the body toward the lens.

Nikon D750 front of camera with lensThe front view of the D750 camera shows the focus illumination light. We can just see the top function button next to the lens mount, there is likely a bottom one to match to adjust aperture smoothly during live view video recording, provide depth of field preview, and other functions.

A locking mode dial sits on the right, with preset U1 and U2 modes as found on the D610 and D7100. Those familiar with those cameras will be right at home on the D750. Professionals may find this camera to be rather different. The dial hass P, S, A, M, scene modes as well. The secondary dial sets the shutter release mode, S, CL, CH, remote, timer, quiet release, and quiet continuous as found on the D610 and D810.

There is a diopter adjustment on the viewfinder. The D750 viewfinder has a rectangular eyecup design.

The front also shows an infrared port for wireless remote control. We also see two holes, one on each side of the lens, that act as the built-in stereo mic.

On top next to the shutter release are metering mode (which includes the new highlight weighted exposure feature), a dedicated video recording button, and another button for EV compensation.

The official announcement is just moments away. Soon after, you will be able to pre-order the new Nikon D750 from select retailers. These links will be posted as soon as the camera is officially available for ordering.

The first “official” pictures of the new Nikon D750 FX camera have been published online. Before the official announcement, these publicity photos were found online. The D750 appears to be similar in size to the D610 and D7100 with a similar layout. The camera does not have the 10-pin connector on the front as some suspected. It has the side-mounted remote port instead. We also see the buit-in pop-up flash and the mode dial similar to the consumer-series cameras (D610, D7100).

The D750 will be announced tonight, and as soon as it is official, you will be able to Prerorder the D750 online. Be sure to keep checking back for more details, they will be posted throughout the day and night.

Official Nikon D750 Speficiations Posted Before Announcement

Calumet Photo Germany briefly listed the Nikon D750 available for sale with specifications. We were tipped off by Nikon Rumors on the translation, and the features match what many had predicted. The D750 will have a 24.3 MP FX-format sensor.

The LCD screen on the D750 will measure 3.2 inches with 1,229K dots, but the key word is tiltable. This will be the first pro-level DSLR from Nikon with a tilting LCD. The D750 will also feature dual SD card slots. It will not use CF or XQD cards as some speculated.

The D750 overall design will be compact and feature weather sealing to prevent dust and moisture from entering the body. The shutter will have the improved design (most likely similar to the D810). The AF system will have 51-points and be based on the MultiCAM 3500FX as the D810 and D4s. It will also use the 91,000 pixel RGB metering sensor including the highlight weighted mode as found in the D810.

The new Nikon EXPEED 4 image processor provides more power for encoding video at high frame rates up to 60p at 1080 HD resolution.  Other frame rates include 24, 25, 30 and 50 fps. The maximum frame rate is confirmed at 6.5 fps, not requiring an external battery. New picture controls bring the total to seven types including a flat profile specialized for video. Changing aperture while recording video is also possible, as well as exposure preview in picture live view. A stereo microphone is included in the camera body, in addition to an external mic.

The D750 will provide a native ISO range of 100-12,800 and also have an expanded 50-51200 range.  As an action camera it will be optimized for low light performance including low noise at high ISO.

The Nikon D750 will be announced officially soon and at that time it will be available for pre-order from select retailers. Find where to preorder the Nikon D750 and find current information.
